What's checked during
your heating tune-up.
Every seasonal tune-up follows a comprehensive multi-point inspection. Our technicians look at everything that affects safety, efficiency, and system longevity — not just the parts that are easiest to check.
Gas pressure and burner flame inspection
Heat exchanger analysis for cracks or corrosion
Blower motor and capacitor testing
Thermostat calibration and wiring check
Flame sensor and igniter cleaning
Air filter inspection and replacement if needed
Ductwork airflow measurement at supply and return
Carbon monoxide level testing at the vent
Electrical connections tightened and inspected
Condensate drain cleaning and testing
The silent danger
no heater owner should ignore.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is colorless, odorless, and deadly. A cracked heat exchanger, blocked vent, or malfunctioning burner can leak CO into your home without triggering any visible warning signs. This is why CO testing is a standard part of every Example HVAC heating tune-up — not an add-on.
Beyond our inspections, the CDC recommends that every household have CO detectors on every level and within sleeping areas. If your detectors ever go off — even if you feel fine — evacuate immediately and call your gas company.

CO testing is included in every Maintenance Club tune-up
We include CO testing as standard — not as an upcharge.
Every Maintenance Club tune-up checks CO levels at the vent and around the combustion chamber. Your safety isn't a line item on our invoice.

questions answered.
How often should I have my heater serviced?
Twice a year is the standard recommendation for gas and electric heaters in North Texas — once in the spring before cooling season and once in the fall before heating season. This allows our technicians to catch wear before it becomes a breakdown, and to calibrate your system for the season ahead.
What exactly is included in a heating tune-up?
Every tune-up covers a multi-point inspection including gas pressure and burner flame, heat exchanger integrity, blower motor and capacitor testing, thermostat calibration, flame sensor and igniter cleaning, air filter inspection, airflow measurement, CO level testing, and electrical connection inspection. We provide a written report after each visit.
Is annual heater maintenance really worth it?
Yes — and the numbers support it. The EPA and HVAC manufacturers alike cite regular maintenance as the single biggest factor in system longevity and efficiency. A well-maintained heater lasts 10–15 years; a neglected one often fails at 8–10. Add in the safety inspection — particularly heat exchanger and CO checks — and the cost of a tune-up is trivial compared to a mid-winter emergency or, worse, a CO incident.
Can I join a maintenance plan mid-season?
Absolutely. You can enroll in the Maintenance Club at any point in the year. If you join mid-season, we'll schedule your first tune-up right away — you'll still receive the diagnostic fee discount and emergency priority status immediately upon enrollment, even if your first full seasonal tune-up is a few months away.
